Perhaps you have had the pleasure of resting your eyes and taste buds on Vancouver’s chocolate treat treasure, Chocolate Arts. If you haven’t you should count this as one of those things to do before you die . . . or at least before you retire. It's chocolate and not just everyday chocolate, but really, really, really amazing chocolate. It looks beautiful and unique and it tastes exquisite. Robert Davidson, a world renowned, First Nations, Haida artist has designed a gift chocolate specifically for Chocolate Arts. Just to give you an idea how remarkable that is, Robert Davidson has been commissioned to design coins for the Canadian Mint. Finding anything of his reproduced on any scale is difficult to say the least. If you want to knock the socks-off any foreign friends with a some really spiffy Canadiana, then gift them with a Robert Davidson dark chocolate eagle medallion and tell them to never eat it. It’ll probably be worth something one day.
What makes them Carbon Cool?
The West 4th location was opened in 1992 by Chocolatier Greg Hook and his wife Patricia. Greg and Patricia try to run their business according to the 100 mile diet and strive to use local suppliers whenever possible, like Hazelmere Organic Farm in South Surry. They boast "no colorings, additives, or anything artificial is used whatsoever” and all purees and sauces are made in-house. Of course we know that we don’t grow chocolate beans in Canada and for that they pride themselves on their commitment to the highest quality and sustainable sourcing.
News!
Chocolate Arts is moving from its 2037 West 4th Avenue location to their new location on June 4th, to 1620 West 3rd between Fir and Pine.
